Trump calls for Pulitzer journalists to be forfeited of their awards

Former US President Donald Trump on Monday called on the Pulitzer Prize Council to revoke the 2018 Pulitzer Prize from national reporting awarded to journalists at The New York Times and Washington post for their coverage of Russian interference in the 2016 elections.

Both newspapers received the award in 2018 “for in-depth and relentless reporting in the public interest that dramatically improved nations’ understanding of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and its connection to the campaign. Trump, the president-elect’s transition team, and his eventual administration, ”according to the Pulitzer committee.

In a letter to Dr Bud Kliment, the acting administrator of the Pulitzer Prizes, Trump said the prizes were awarded on the basis of false reports and a “complete lack of evidence.” He also said the coverage relied heavily on anonymous sources, meaning that “the public has been deprived of an independent means of assessing their credibility, potential for political bias and the source of their knowledge.”

Trump claimed the allegations were “confirmed false” and that he had been “exonerated” from the charges. Robert Mueller, who led the investigation into allegations that Russia interfered with the 2016 election, said, however, that his report does not exonerate the former president.

The letter comes after Hillary Clinton’s campaign lawyer Michael Sussman was recently accused of making false statements to the FBI when he shared information about the Trump campaign and Russia in 2016. Trump said claimed that the indictment “reinforces the lie” of a link between his campaign and Alfa Bank.

The former president called on the board to “rectify” the situation, saying the integrity of the prestigious journalism award would otherwise be compromised.
