Tom Brady breaks down ‘Sleepy Tom’ joke he hinted at US President Joe Biden

After knee surgery for a ripped MCL, 44-year-old quarterback Tom Brady appears to have a spring in his step as he enters the 2021 NFL season. Brady’s main goal in his 22nd season in the league is the same as the day he joined the New England Patriots in 2000 – to win a Super Bowl.

The quarterback won his seventh overall in the league last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Beating the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 in Super Bowl LV, the Bucs even earned a trip to the White House.

The event, a celebratory function to congratulate the Buccaneers on their success, was hosted by the 46th President of the United States of America, Joe Bidden.

As Brady stepped onto the podium, he praised his teammates and coaches for coming together as a group to clinch a Super Bowl in what was a COVID-ravaged season.

But Tom Brady didn’t miss the opportunity to make fun of the president himself. Referring to Biden’s nickname “Sleepy Joe”, Brady made a joke in which he referred to a game against the Chicago Bears his team lost to in 2020.

In one game, Brady mis-counted his team’s bottom count and ended up handing the ball over to the Bears to let them take possession and seal the game.

And since then, in addition to being the GOAT, Tom Brady has also earned the nickname “Sleepy Tom”. “Why would they do this to me?” Brady then asked the president rhetorically.

Tom Brady sought to lighten the mood

During his appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Tom Brady explained the reasons he went with this joke.

“I was trying to bring a little lightness to the situation”, Brady said. “You know it was hot there. I didn’t want to go up there and be boring, so it was really fun that the president was laughing with that ”, Brady said.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback, however, praised President Biden for his humility in continuing the act.

The Buccaneers themselves could use a pickup right now, given how their preseason is going. In both games, the Bucs failed to start and their most recent game against the Tennessee Titans was a 34-3 blowout.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, led by Tom Brady, kick off their 2021 campaign against the Dallas Cowboys on September 9. They will have the advantage of being at home. So Bucs fans will surely be hoping Brady will help ease the mood a bit by securing a victory in opening week.
