Top politicians pay tribute to Bob Dole following his death on Sunday. He was 98 years old.
Shortly after news of the late senator’s death broke, the President Joe biden expressed his condolences in a statement on social media.
“Bob Dole was a man admired by Americans. He had an unfailing sense of integrity and honor,” said Biden, 79. tweeted. “May God bless him and may our nation draw upon his heritage of decency, dignity, good humor and patriotism forever.”
In other declarationBiden recalled his close friend and detailed a visit he made to the late politician a month after being sworn in as president earlier this year.
“Bob was recently diagnosed with lung cancer, and I was there to offer the same support, the love and encouragement they showed to Jill and me when our son Beau battled cancer, and the Doles have shown us over half a century that we are friends, ”a- he writes.

George W. Bush also wrote his own remembrance of Dole, who was previously the longtime leader of the Senate Republicans.
“Laura and I are saddened by the passing of a great patriot, Senator Bob Dole,” he said. “This brave man represented the finest American values. He defended them in uniform during World War II. He promoted them to the United States Senate. And he lived them as a father, husband and friend.”

On Twitter, Bill clinton – who beat Dole in the 1996 presidential election – also expressed sadness, alongside a photo of Dole.

Vice president Kamala harris also shared his own post for reflection.

On Sunday, the Elizabeth Dole Foundation announced Dole’s passing in a declaration shared on social networks.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Senator Robert Joseph Dole died early this morning in his sleep,” the statement read. “At his death, at the age of 98, he had faithfully served the United States of America for 79 years.
Earlier this year, Dole announced that he had been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. “I have a few obstacles in front of me,” the politician said when he announced his diagnosiss in February.
Dole is now survived by Elizabeth and her daughter Robin.
