Nebraska Governor Denounces State University for “Anti-Racist” Plan: “Give Up Ideological Indoctrination”
Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts blows up the University of Nebraska – Lincoln after posting a “Commitment to Action” to his “Journey to Anti-Racism and Racial Fairness.”
The plan draws on Ibram X. Kendi’s definition of “active awareness of race and racism” and deals, in part, with how the university will examine hiring practices “in the context of race and ethnicity “.
In addition, the plan also aims to provide teachers with more “anti-racist and inclusive teaching seminars” that will focus on “examining racial prejudice in the classroom and course materials.”
Another proposal calls for the creation of “educational tools and learning modules for faculty, staff and students that provide opportunities for critical conversations and skills building related to diversity, equity, inclusion and racial justice â.

One of the new goals of the plan is for the University of Nebraska – Lincoln to create a new working group that “would continuously review the history, messages and images of the UNL, names and honors, and identify opportunities to recognize the cultural histories of the institution and of Nebraska, to demonstrate the University’s commitment to inclusive excellence and to enhance the representation of racially marginalized groups “
Governor Ricketts called the plan “ideological indoctrination” in a press release Thursday.
“From racially motivated hiring practices to harmful training, the University’s plan would inject Critical Race Theory (CRT) into every corner of the campus,” Governor Ricketts said. “It will pit people against each other by conditioning everyone to see each other through the prism of race rather than as individuals with unique strengths. The UNL should focus on educational excellence, not on education. ‘ideological indoctrination. “

Ricketts also said he was told on Tuesday by the Chancellor of the University of Nebraska – Lincoln Ronnie David Green that the university would release a plan regarding its hiring practices.
âI urged Chancellor Green to avoid divisive policies,â Ricketts said. “Since then, Chancellor Green has distorted my position on this in conversations with University stakeholders. He has told people that I support him, and nothing could be further from the truth.”

Ricketts added that the proposed new policies show why the University of Nebraska – Lincoln administration vehemently opposed a resolution by the University of Nebraska Board of Trustees that would “ban the application of the CRT at University “.
