GOP Representative Rodney Davis is not running for Governor of Illinois; Congress, Mary Miller, Pritzker
WASHINGTON – United States Representative Rodney Davis in Illinois will announce on Tuesday that he will not compete in the 2022 GOP governor’s primary in Illinois and will instead seek re-election to the House .
The state’s Democratic cartographers created a GOP district custom tailored to Davis – and one without another titular – to prompt him to kick him out of the 2022 gubernatorial race, where Gov. JB Pritzker is running for another term. .
Davis deciding to run for the House again, first-year U.S. Rep. Mary Miller, R-Ill., Of Oakland, is the only Illinois GOP holder who has not announced plans for 2022.
She will face a primary with a more established GOP holder, regardless of the district in which she chooses to run. Candidates do not have to reside in the constituency they represent.
Currently, the Illinois delegation is sending 13 Democrats and 5 Republicans to Congress. Illinois lost a seat due to a reallocation after the 2020 census.
The new map drawn by the state’s Democrats includes three very safe GOP districts, up from five previously. The other 14 districts were designed to elect Democrats.
- U.S. Reps Darin LaHood, of Peoria, and Adam Kinzinger, of Channahon, were cast together in the new 16e District, which spans part of central and northern Illinois. LaHood got a break when Kinzinger said he would not seek another term in the House. Kinzinger is also considering a governorship or Senate term, and a decision is expected in January.
- U.S. Reps Mike Bost of Murphysboro and Miller were placed in the same new 12e District, which encompasses part of southern Illinois.
- Davis was the sole incumbent in the new 15e, a district rooted in central Illinois bordering, in part, the borders of Indiana and Iowa.
Miller embraced Trump and Trumpism more than other Illinois GOP incumbents. Although she can flee from any district, LaHood’s territory is too far from her political base in southern Illinois, where her husband, Chris, is a member of the Illinois House and where he is. find the family farm.
In a show of political force, Davis, who has risen through the leadership ranks of the GOP House, is expected to announce the support of most of the New District’s Republican county presidents and other state officials and members of Congress on Tuesday. .
