Ghaziabad: After news of an elderly couple was allegedly murdered in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, another shocking incident of theft was reported after thieves broke into the home of a major lumber merchant in Chandrapuri.
The incident took place around noon on Saturday when the trader, identified as Mukesh Gupta, visited his shop and family members visited a relative for the Bhai Duj celebration. According to reports, the thieves fled with money and jewelry worth 1 crore rupees.
When questioned, Mukesh’s friend and neighbor Rajiv said the lumber merchant brought the cash to his home as he was unable to drop it off due to the public holiday. In order to get more information, the cops scan all CCTV footage mounted near the businessman‘s house. However, they still have no idea, according to the India time report.
Elaborating further on the case, he added that Mukesh left for his store around 10 a.m. and his wife and daughter had gone to Meerut for the Bhai Duj celebrations. When Mukesh returned home around 12:30 p.m., he was shocked to see the house ransacked.
Commenting on the case, Nipun Agarwal, SP (town 1) added: “At this point, we cannot comment on the amount that has disappeared because the family still assesses the same,” according to the report published in YOU.
According to the cops, the accused is a person known to family members because the room where the money and jewelry was kept was only targeted and ransacked. Thus, they suspect that the accused was very aware of the displacement of the family and that the crime was also committed in less than half an hour and thus, they suspect an insider to be behind the crime.
Meanwhile, as the businessman’s house did not have a CCTV camera installed, the cops are examining the CCTV mounted near his house and every effort is made to catch the accused as soon as possible.
