Cuttack police arrest four in Jagatsinghpur businessman loot case
Cutoff: Four people were arrested by Kandarpur police in Cuttack district for looting a businessman from Jagatsinghpur district on September 9, 2021, police said on Monday.
The accused were identified as Sagar Mallick (26 years old) from Jagatsinghpur, Raja alias Bibekananda Senapati (24 years old) from Kendrapara, Sinu alias Swopnasagar Parida (20 years old) from Nayagarh and Rabindra Swain (39 years old) from Jagatsinghpur.
According to a complaint filed at the Kandarpur police station on September 9, Manoranjan Sethi (47) from Kendala in Jagatsinghpur district said that a businessman Khirod Chandra Sahoo and his older brother Niranjan Sahoo ran a grocery store in Nuapola. Bazaar near his village.
They come to Malgodown in Cuttack every week in their Bolero Pickup van to pick up groceries and Sethi has been driving the vehicle for 11 years.
On September 9 at around 11:20 a.m., everyone came to Cuttack in the said vehicle to pick up groceries. As they approached between the Kaijanga-Athanga road around noon, two young people arrived aboard a black and white motorbike and stopped them, keeping the motorbike in front of the vehicle.
The youths told Sethi and others that they were carrying Ganja and ordered them to go to the police station. Saying this, the motorcycle passenger came to Sethi and ripped off the key to the van.
The driver of the motorbike went to Khirod’s house and asked him to hand over the money to him. Upon refusal, said youth drew a pistol and assaulted Sethi’s head, opened fire on his left thigh and wrested approximately 1 lakh of Rs.
After that, Khirod called his nephew Manu Sahoo who arrived there and transferred the first to SCB Medical College & Hospital and took the vehicle to Nuapola.
Based on Sethi’s complaint, the police had formed three teams to catch the defendants. One of them was injured in an encounter that erupted near the Kathajodi Bridge under Kandarpur Police Limits in Cuttack District on October 16.
