Comic: Claytoonz: Mitch, Please

Politicians make mistakes. Some examples are “What is Aleppo?” by Gary Johnson. Rick Perry unable to name third department he would eliminate (which he was later named head by Trump). “Fool me once, shame on you…fool me…I can’t be fooled anymore.” President Obama’s “57 States,” which Republicans still can’t let go of. And then there’s Joe Biden in the 2008 campaign when he said then-Senator and candidate Barack Obama was “articulate and bright and clean and a nice guy.” Every politician has gaffes, but what Senate Minority Leader and anti-suffrage moron Mitch McConnell said Wednesday was NOT a gaffe.
When asked what he would say to black voters who fear the Senate’s failure to pass the Voting Rights Act will prevent them from voting midway through November, Mitch said, “If you look at the statistics, African American voters vote in as high a percentage as Americans.
When I first saw this on social media, I thought it was a parody. And as I often say, it’s getting harder and harder to parody and satirize. Did Mitch McConnell Really Say Black Voters Are Not American? Yes, yes he did.
Millions of people are now asking, “Why would Mitch say that?” They scratch their heads and scratch and scratch, and they keep scratching until they bleed… but stop scratching, America (all of you, not just white people). It’s no mystery why McConnell would say something like that. There is a simple and obvious answer.
The reason Mitch McConnell would say that black people aren’t Americans but white people are is because Mitch McConnell is a racist. Uh. So his statement was not a blunder. It was a Freudian slip. A Freudian slip is when you accidentally expose how you really feel.
It used to be that politicians didn’t have to hide their hatred. They would openly campaign on their hatred, like George Wallace, Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms. Now they have to use code words for racists and other assorted haters. These are dog whistles. A racist Republican can no longer say the N word so he will say “thug”. If another can’t utter the word “Jew” in one of their speeches, they can replace it with “globalist.” You can also let people know where you stand by saying “build the wall”, “send them back”, “critical race theory“, and “vote Trump”. These are all dog whistles.
The problem with white conservatives is that they want this nation to continue to be controlled by white people. They want a white America. Even as Caucasians lose their majority, they believe they are entitled to and should have more representation than the rest of America. Look at the Supreme Court. Every GOP candidate is white except for the black friend. “The Black Friend” is the “evidence” conservatives use to say they are not racist.
Republicans are now changing election laws across the country to maintain and create Republican majorities in state legislatures, in Congress, and to win the presidency, but also to keep white people in control. There’s a line in the Family Guy cartoon where a wealthy person complains that in the good old days, white people controlled 100% of America instead of what they control now: 99%.
Republicans will cheat to maintain white control. That’s why they gerrymander. That’s why old Kentucky racists like Mitch McConnell steal Supreme Court seats.
But, they’re supposed to be using dog whistles and pretending they’re making racist laws for the good of all, so they’re using phrases like ‘voter integrity’ when there’s no fraud mass election. They use Martin Luther King Jr’s speech about judging character content not skin color to justify removing voters based on skin color. And in case you haven’t noticed, when they talk about fictitious voter fraud, they mean “downtown.” This is another dog whistle. But these dogs don’t hunt and we see right through you.
And then Mitch throws an airball that’s still hanging. Everyone can see it. Mitch McConnell, your racism is showing.
“Mitch please” has been trending on Twitter for the past two days with thousands of black Americans letting Mitch know something he didn’t do until Wednesday. Black Americans are Americans.
In Mitch’s statement, he referred to black voters as “African Americans” before making the statement about “Americans.” But, Mitch. How can someone be African American if they are not American? Also, how can they vote if they are not American? Oh….now I see. You don’t think black people are Americans, which means they don’t deserve the right to vote in American elections, which is why you’re trying to take it away from them.
The real irony here is that taking away the right to vote and creating laws that make it harder for ANY American to vote is un-American. Nor is supporting a coup, trying to overturn an election, building a wall to keep immigrants out, voting for a president’s favorite candidate Russian, spreading an election lie, trying to overturn an election, or launching conspiracy theories that the first black president was not born in America, or telling Americans they are not Americans.
McConnell and his fellow Republicans tell us who is American and who is not. It is truly a white privilege to designate oneself as this authority.
