Columbus businessman buys Main Street property and wants new businesses to move there

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – You might remember it as Crosley’s, or more recently The Fashion Barn, but soon the space at the corner of 5th Street South and Main Street in the heart of downtown Columbus will have a new identity.
“We love downtown,” said Josh Read, financial adviser to Edward Jones. “It’s dynamic. We want to give back to the community. This building really stood out.
Read purchased the building to expand his business and invest in the future of historic downtown Columbus.
Read’s renovation not only has space for him, but at 4,500 square feet, it also leaves room for other professionals in the neighborhood.
“The great thing about splitting this building is that we can just help support another business – hopefully a local business – to grow their business, start their business and be downtown,” said declared Read.
Another selling point for Read was the story lurking in the walls around the corner from Main Street. A building that was once a grocery store, fashion retailer and even survived a fire in its lifetime.
“He has such a unique and amazing story,” Read said. “It’s so exciting to learn more every day. I love taking photos and learning about all the different businesses that were here. »
Read is still working out the details of what businesses can move into and giving the exterior a much-needed facelift.
The property should be finished around May 1st.
