Joe Biden thinks the US economy is ‘strong as hell’
President Joe Biden came under fire Monday on social media for saying over the weekend that the US economy was “strong as hell”.
Responding to a reporter’s question on Saturday whether he was worried about the strength of the U.S. dollar amid rising inflation, Biden responded while eating ice cream at a Baskin-Robbins in Portland, Oregon. :
I am not concerned about the strength of the dollar. I worry about the rest of the world. Our economy is strong as hell.
“Inflation is global. It is worse than in the United States,” he continued. “So the problem is the lack of economic growth and sound politics in other countries, not so much ours.”
Many people took to Twitter to disagree with Biden, reminding the president that many Americans are struggling. Some people tweeted, “reality says otherwise,” pointing out that the S&P 500 is down more than 25% so far this year.
Congressman Lance Gooden (R-TX) tweeted that in reality “65% of Americans say the economy is getting worse.” Ronna McDaniel, chair of the Republican National Committee, referenced a recent CNN poll indicating that 78% of Americans say the economy is “poor.” A candidate for the US House of Texas, Wesley Hunt, tweeted a list of items that had risen in price, including fuel, airfare, eggs, gas and food.
Commenting on Biden’s remark that the US economy is ‘strong as hell’, former Chrysler CEO Bob Nardelli said: ‘This is absolutely not valid, this is not correct, this t is an inaccuracy…and it draws our people into complacency…We are suffering there…We need to start seeing the world as it is.
White House says Biden ‘got the job done’ to fix inflation problem
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reportedly declared at Monday’s White House press conference, President Biden “got the job done” to address the inflation problem. Responding to a reporter’s question, she said:
The President understands … that inflation is a problem, that high costs are a problem for the American people, and so he has been very clear about making it his number one economic priority. And he did the job.
In September, Biden came under fire for saying inflation hadn’t risen in months. In August, he was criticized for claiming that the US economy had 0% inflation. In June, the Biden administration was accused of propaganda and redefining the technical definition of a recession.
