Dehradun: Champawat police arrested two Nepalese men who were arrested with stolen jewelry worth Rs 14 lakh, which they say is part of a reserve of Rs 2.5 crore. The accused had worked as a domestic helper in the home of a businessman in the Punjabi Bagh area, west of Delhi, for three years.
Karan Sarki and Raju, from Mahotari district in Nepal, along with three other people, allegedly gave intoxicants to the businessman’s family in Delhi on the night of October 22. Together the five fled with a total of Rs 2.5 crore in diamond and gold jewelry, as well as expensive wristwatches.
Sarki and Raju were arrested by a police patrol late Monday night near the Indo-Nepal border. Their Adhaar and Nepalese identity cards were also found during the check. The police recovered jewelry worth Rs 14 lakh and Rs 1 lakh in cash from the duo. Station officer Lakshman Singh in Banbasa, Chapawat district, told TOI: “We are in contact with Delhi police and have learned that five people, including two women, were involved in the theft of the police. businessman’s house. While two of them were arrested, three others are still at large and are believed to have the remaining jewelry and money. ”
A case against the two defendants has already been registered at the Punjabi Bagh Police Station under section 381 (theft) and section 328 (poisoning injury) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Police also registered an FIR against the duo under Articles 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen goods) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC.
